Bathroom Extension Under The Housing Adaptation Grant

Project Overview

This specialist adaptation project, completed under the Housing Adaptation Grant in partnership with Roscommon County Council, involved constructing a fully accessible extension to the rear of the property. The aim was to create a wheelchair-friendly bathroom and safe, independent access for our client. Key features include a level-access shower, grab rails, R11 anti-slip tiles, and an external ramp with handrails and wide footpaths leading directly to the new extension. Every element of the build was carefully designed to comply with HSE requirements and to maximise comfort, safety, and mobility for the client.

Client Requirements

Our client sought an adaptation that would significantly improve their day-to-day mobility and quality of life. Their specific needs included:

A fully accessible bathroom tailored for wheelchair use.
A level-access shower with safety features.
Strategically positioned handrails throughout the bathroom.
R11 anti-slip floor tiles to reduce fall risks.
An external access ramp with handrails and wide pathways for safe and easy navigation.
All works to be compliant with HSE standards and executed with minimal disruption.

Installed a level-access shower tray with appropriate drainage and gradient, allowing for easy wheelchair entry.
Fitted high-quality grab rails at key locations within the bathroom to enhance safety and user confidence.
Laid R11 rated anti-slip porcelain tiles for maximum floor safety, even when wet.
Installed a comfort-height toilet with side support bars, further improving ease of use.
Built a purpose-designed external ramp with handrails on both sides and extra-wide footpaths, ensuring the extension is easily and safely accessible from the rear of the property.
Completed all works in full compliance with HSE guidelines and Roscommon County Council standards.
