Recent Changes (Effective 1 December 2024):

• Increased grant amounts and income limits.
• 100% grant coverage for adaptations if you fall within the lowest income bracket.
• Adjusted income assessment for the means test, making it easier to qualify.

What Does the Grant Cover?

The grant supports various types of work, such as:

• Adding ramps or other access solutions.
• Creating space for wheelchair access, including wider hallways and doorways.
• Adding an extension, such as a ground-floor bedroom or accessible bathroom.
• Installing accessible bathroom facilities, including accessible showers or ground-floor toilets
• Installing stairlifts, through-floor lifts, or fixed track hoists (though maintenance, servicing, and training costs are excluded).
• Adding grab rails or other essential aids.

The grant can also cover other work deemed necessary by the local authority to make your home more suitable for a person with a disability.

How Much Funding Can You Get

The maximum grant is €40,000 or 100% of the cost of the work, whichever is less.

Eligibility Criteria

Your Home Must Be:

• Privately owned or rented with landlord permission.
• Provided by an approved housing body (with their consent).
• A communal residence (e.g., a group home).

You Must Live in the Property:

It must be your primary residence when the work is completed.
